The stones
What they are, how they are graded, and what the grading actually tells you.
Yes. A lab-grown diamond has the same carbon structure, the same hardness and the same optical properties as a mined one. A gemmologist needs specialist equipment to tell them apart. The difference is where it formed: in a controlled environment rather than underground.
The International Gemmological Institute grades the stone independently for cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Pieces with a certified centre stone are marked on their product page, and the certificate travels with the piece.
It varies by piece, and the grades for each one are listed in the diamond details on its product page. Where a range of carat weights is offered, the grade holds across the range.
Lab-grown stones generally resell for less than mined stones of the same grade. If resale value is your main concern, that is worth knowing before you order. Most people buy these to wear rather than to trade.
Ordering and delivery
What happens between placing an order and opening the box.
Every piece is made after you order it, which usually takes around ten days before it ships. If you need something by a particular date, write to us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether it is possible.
Most pieces come in 14K yellow, white or rose gold. The options shown on each product page are the ones we can make for that design.
Orders ship insured and require a signature on arrival. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
Get in touch as soon as you can. Once a stone has been set the piece is finished for you, so there is a point after which changes are no longer possible.
Pieces are made to order, so we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If a piece arrives faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace, repair or refund it. Custom and personalised pieces cannot be returned once production has started.
Write to us before you order and we will talk you through measuring at home. Getting this right first time saves a resize later.
Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush will lift most of what dulls a stone, which is usually hand cream and skin oil rather than dirt. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners.
Before the gym, the pool, gardening, and anything involving harsh chemicals. Diamond is hard but the setting is gold, and gold bends.
